Post subject : Just follow the recipe

10-8-6 Tracy's thought for today
When I was newly married and young, I had on encyclopedia of cookery. One Thanksgiving I was to bring the desert. I poured over the books looking for the perfect thing. I found it. A double chocolate raspberry torte! The ingredients took about half my grocery budget as I recall, but I wanted to do it just right. I bought every single ingredient in that recipe. It was not terribly difficult but the process had to be followed exactly or it might not come out looking like the photo in the book. I labored over that torte for hours. Following each step carefully and double checking as I went. When I was finished, I had the most beautiful thing I had ever created. Everyone at the Thanksgiving feast complimented it and wanted the recipe. I was delighted. Unfortunately, I could not for the life of me find that recipe after that night. I searched too. I tried to make the desert many times after, but it was never anywhere near as good as the first one, where I had followed the recipe. Needless to say, I could not pass it on to my family and friends either.
When I came into recovery, I was given a recipe with 12 steps on it. I was told that If I followed each step just as directed, the results would be astounding. I was also offered a master chefs assistance in the form of a Sponsor to guide me through the process. I could not see where I had anything to lose. How foolish it would have been to disregard the recipe and turn my nose up at the chef who had succeeded many times in doing each step to completion and seeing the finished product? No I had learned from the torte incident. I would gladly take the help and follow the recipe. Due to my willingness to try something new, and follow careful guidance I have received the rewards!
Again my family and friends applaud and show amazement around the Thanksgiving table. The difference is that this time, they got more than a desert, they got their beloved restored to health and sanity.
Follow the recipe, one step at a time, and see the wonderful creation when you are done. Fortunately, the recipe won't get lost this time and you will be able to pass it on to anyone who want's it.
Now that is something to be thankful for indeed. |

It sure IS a wonderful analogy! I really love it! And the fact that you have that experience draw from and can use it to shine a light for the rest of us to follow....as others have before us! I am reminded of the lemon meringue pie analogy from Mama Cloud. (Was that her name....she who walked this path before us...?)
I was also reminded of an angelfood cake I tried to make once without whipping the egg whites long enough...The result is in direct proportion to the effort you put in.. for true.
Thanks, Pink! GREAT one again! |

Thanks guys.
I'm thinking it was Poetry Girl who shared the lemmon meringue story, yes! Now THAT was good. It was her Sponsor who made the pies. Beautiful! I can only imagine an angels food cake like that musta weighed a ton! lol
Libby, when you mentioned it's in your God box I had to smile! Thank you
I love you guys! |

hi tracy, my dad and mom both have a "God Box" and i started one about 4 years ago. Sometimes i worry and think about something over and over and round and round, can't figure it out, so it goes in the God Box and try to do my best to let it go, do what i thnik is right and let God handle it. Also, i throw in things i ask God for. It's amazing over time to see how prayers are answered and situations resolved when i give them to God. So, going to west coast someday....in the box. have a great day! |

This needed a bump today.
I have been thinking a lot about the recipe.
We alcoholic/addicts like to think we can come up with a better recipe,
we want to skimp on the ingredients or take it from the oven before it's done.
I love my life today, I have been following the same recipe for years and
years now with wonderful results.
Some things thankfully do not change. The steps have been numbered 1 through 12
for a long time, they have worked perfectly when followed, my master chef is still
willing to mentor me. I am so lucky. I will not look a gift horse in the mouth.
(weird expression hu? )
At times I think I'd like something different, but then I try to remember
how sick I got off of those "other recipes". Yep this is a keeper.
